Haiti Earthquake Relief Effort – Reliable Charities

Many of my patients from Haiti have family and friends that are in dire need of assistance. The most effective way you can help is to make a donation to a well-established organization that is involved in providing emergency support. I recommend:

Doctors Without Borders

Because Doctors Without Borders already had teams working on medical projects in Haiti at the time of the earthquake, they have treated hundreds of injured people and are working to get more staff into the country. Doctors are setting up medical facilities in tents, since their own buildings have been severely damaged.

Partners in Health

This aid organization “is based on solidarity, rather than charity alone,” and is working to coordinate 120 doctors and 500 nurses on the ground in Haiti, evaluating how best to respond to the crisis. PIH’s flagship project is based in Haiti, and it’s where the organization’s broadest range of resources is located.

Oxfam International

Oxfam has dispatched a team of specialists to Haiti and is working to send badly needed medical supplies. Their humanitarian coordinator in Port-au-Prince said, “Our immediate priorities will be providing safe water and shelter material for the people who have lost their homes. Many people have lost their homes and were sleeping out in the open last night.”

International Rescue Committee

The IRC will be working with overwhelmed local aid groups in Haiti to provide life-saving medical care, clean water and sanitation to earthquake survivors. IRC specialists are veteran first-responders who set up immediate and effective emergency programs around the world during violent conflicts and natural disasters.

American Red Cross

You can support the American Red Cross efforts in Haiti by giving to their International Response Fund.

Hello, Everyone!

I hope you are all staying warm and dry as things are less than sunny on this soggy Saturday in Washington, DC.

I just received my first review of my practice and I am both deeply humbled as well as pleased to see that I have been able to have a positive impact upon people’s lives.  It’s posted on my Google profile for Allegro Wellness – http://tinyurl.com/yfhu63g .  Here’s the post from one of my patients:

“Dr. V. is the BEST!  - by Kristen – Oct 17, 2009

Dr. Vogelmann is an amazing chiropractor and is incredibly talented.  He has been treating me for over 6 years and has helped tremendously with my chronic neck and low back.  He has a natural gift for reading the body and knowing exactly what each patient needs at that time.  His humor and wit are not only entertaining, they are a huge bonus! He is a trus asset to the field of chiropractic medicine, and is THE BEST!  I HIGHLY recommend him!!

Kristen Cady, MS, LAc Certified Animal Acupuncturist”

Thanks, Kristin!  She’s a great acupuncturist on people too! :-)

Have a healthful and energetic day!

Hi, there!

Well, today was my first trial run of practicing on a couple of paitents while only using one arm.  You see, I had left shoulder surgery on September 25th to reattach posterior cartilage that had ripped off the back of that joint.  Ouch!  Well, the good news is that despite having to wear a sling until October 26th, I am semi-funcitonal.  I can drive, feed myself, and even dress myself without any assistance. :-)   Adjusting a patient was the last obstacle to my return to limited work in Rockville and Alexandria.

I just shot and edited two videos yesterday and uploaded them to YouTube on “Nutrition and Surgery.”  They are short but you get the added bonus of getting to see me sporting a very fashionable sling. :-)

Looking forward to seeing my many patients in Maryland and Virginia this week.  However, please be gentle.  I’m not yet fully-recovered.

Yours in ever-increasing health and Energy,

Dr. V.
